Competitor tracking for the AI age media manager

The ads are disappearing, the decks are stale on arrival, and the job has changed.

I have built and overseen more quarterly competitive decks than I would like to admit.

The routine was always the same. Once a quarter, somebody pulls screenshots of whatever competitor ads happen to be running that week. A separate Ipsos run comes in as an export. Somebody assembles a deck. By the time it reaches the meeting room, half the campaigns in it are already finished.

For years that was fine, because everyone worked the same way.

And the ads disappear. On Meta, a commercial ad vanishes from the Ad Library the moment it stops running. Google keeps roughly 30 days. TikTok's ad library covers Europe and the UK only, so Gulf ads are not in it at all. In our region, your competitor's advertising history does not exist. Unless somebody saved it.

Read that again. There is no archive. Nobody is keeping one for you.

So the job changed. The AI age media manager should be able to run the following, and none of it needs a data team:

  1. Capture on a schedule, not on request. Agents pull the live competitor ads weekly from the ad libraries. Weekly, because a monthly pull already loses whatever ran for three weeks in between.
  2. One archive, everything lands in it. Every captured ad and every Ipsos export goes into the same structured store: brand, platform, format, message, offer, language, first seen, last seen. The Ipsos side still arrives as manual exports, so a watched folder ingests each file the moment it lands.
  3. AI reads everything. Every creative gets read, not skimmed: what is the message, what is the offer, who is it speaking to, what changed versus last week.
  4. The delta writes itself. A weekly brief nobody assembles: what launched, what stopped, what changed, what it probably means. Big moves alert the same day, not at the quarterly review.
  5. A living dashboard, not a deck. The review is a page that is current whenever it is opened. If your competitive review has a date on the cover, it is already old.
Flowchart: five sources including the Meta Ad Library, Google Ads Transparency, TikTok, competitor sites and Ipsos exports flow into weekly capture agents and a watched folder, into one structured archive, into AI that reads every creative, out to a living dashboard, a weekly delta brief and same day alerts, ending at the human who judges which moves matter.
The living system: sources in, judgment out. Everything between them runs on its own. Click to open full size.

The manager still sits at the top of this system and takes the final analytical call. The machine captures, reads and compares. The manager judges which moves matter and what to do about them. That was always the real job. The pulling and pasting never was.

If you lead the team, this is where your managers should be standing, and it is the standard to hold them to. Not faster deck assembly. A living system, with judgment at the top.

One more thing worth saying plainly. Because the ads vanish, the archive compounds. Whoever starts capturing first owns the only history that exists. It cannot be bought later and it cannot be backfilled. Start this week, and a year from now you will know your category's advertising past better than the platforms do.

PS: Ipsos, where is your MCP?
