Qatar Doubles Down as SambaNova Rides the Inference Boom to $11 Billion

SambaNova Systems has completed the first close of a $1 billion Series F at an $11 billion post-money valuation, the company announced over Business Wire on July 8. General Atlantic led the round with significant investment from Seligman Ventures, T. Rowe Price Associates and Capital Group. Qatar Investment Authority confirmed its participation the same day in its own newsroom, noting it had already backed SambaNova's previous round in February 2026, when the company was valued at $2 billion.

That is a valuation multiplied more than five times in a matter of months, and the investor list explains why the market is paying attention. Alongside QIA sit Intel Capital, funds and accounts managed by BlackRock, Battery Ventures, Vista Equity Partners, Volantis, QFO Capital and others. CEO Rodrigo Liang framed the number plainly: "SambaNova's $11 billion valuation highlights the central role that fast inference now plays in the enterprise AI stack."

SambaNova, founded in 2017 in San Jose, builds a full stack alternative to Nvidia for running AI models rather than training them: its own RDU chips, rack scale systems and cloud services tuned for high speed inference. The proceeds will fund capacity expansion and deployments across enterprises, neo clouds, sovereign AI customers and service providers. The release also carried a marquee customer proof point: JPMorganChase has selected SambaNova as an inference infrastructure partner and will deploy its SN40 and SN50 systems for secure, on premises inference. "We're excited to deploy SambaNova's RDU architecture and looking forward to testing its speed and security for on-prem inference," said Darrin Alves, the bank's CIO of infrastructure platforms.

The signal for the market is twofold. First, inference, not training, is where enterprise budgets are consolidating, and buyers with strict data control requirements (banks, governments, healthcare) are willing to fund non Nvidia silicon to get speed on their own premises. Second, crossover and sovereign capital is now underwriting that thesis at scale: when T. Rowe Price, Capital Group, BlackRock managed funds and a Gulf sovereign fund all show up in one round, the chip challenger category has moved from venture bet to allocation.

The Gulf link here is structural, not decorative. QIA said the deal reflects its strategy of backing "next-generation technology platforms driving global AI adoption," and its repeat participation within five months makes SambaNova one of the fund's clearest AI infrastructure convictions. Just as telling, SambaNova explicitly names sovereign AI customers as a deployment target, and the Gulf is the most active sovereign AI buyer's market in the world right now.

The takeaway for operators: regulated enterprises in the region evaluating on premises inference now have a bank grade reference deployment to point to in JPMorganChase. For investors, the round confirms that late stage AI infrastructure rounds are pricing inference capacity, not roadmaps. For builders, faster and cheaper inference from credible Nvidia alternatives keeps compressing the cost curve their unit economics depend on. Watch the second close, which Liang says will add more investors within weeks.
